ANALYSIS OF A FRONT COVER

Analysis of VOGUE magazine

The name of the magazine is ‘VOGUE’. I think it is called this because vogue means the prevailing fashion or style at a particular time; and the magazine is to update the readers on latest fashion and trends as well as being a lifestyle magazine. The magazine relates to its genre of fashion and lifestyle by showing models wearing top end brands and by including articles on how to put together outfits. It has no slogan however the headline/mission statement is ‘International Collections Issue’. The intended target audience are females from the age sixteen to thirty years old. I know this because everything in the magazine is to do with women’s fashion, beauty products and feminine perfumes also majority of the text on the front cover is pink which is stereotypically a females favourite colour. Conde Nast is the institution that owns Vogue. The circulation figures of the magazine are ABC 200,000 and they also have 2.2 million users online. Emma Watson is on the front cover who is a model, actress and activist and there is also a feature article on her in the magazine; she may be the model of the front cover because it would attract its target audience as they would be the ones most aware of who she is and what she is famous for. Advertising plays a big role in this magazine because almost every page is an advertisement for high end - designer clothing and perfume companies. I would describe the style of the magazine as feminine, sophisticated and chic.
